Camden Youth Engagement Project is Here!

What is CYEP? It started out as a mapping project that organizes and trains crews of young people to walk the streets of their neighborhoods, talking with young people, their families, business owners, and community leaders. The youth find out about places and people that are friendly to young people and what kinds of opportunities are available. Using that information, they work with designers to make a map and then distribute them. We have grown into so much more, hosting talent shows, movie nights, family fun nights, and youth led facilitative trainings.

The mission of CYEP is: "Produce and promote positive youth activities in the Camden community"

Teen Krew of North Minneapolis

As the members of Teen Krew we are the teens that are going to step up and change the Northside of  Minneapolis. We believe in our hearts that we could change our future and the future of other kids and teens.
The whole krew loves what we are doing and love to help  people. What we are trying to  accomplish is to make a map, get them out to the teens, and find better places where teens could hang out. And try to tell  everyone that we want to make a  difference and to influence the police to do their job alot better, so that there would be less crime.
We are trying to get friends and family to help one another to change the Northside. We pray that if we accomplish our goal then we would have satisfaction in knowing that we really made a difference and to encourage other teens as well. We believe that if everyone could come together as one we all can really make a difference.
The Youth Engagement  Project is a youth lead initiative and is another exciting collaborative partnership between the Cleveland, Lind-Bohanon, Shingle Creek, and McKinley neighborhood orgs., the Jenny Lind and Lucy Craft Laney Community Education departments, Hennepin County School Success Initiative, and the Youth Coordinating Board, NorthWay Community Trust, Wells Fargo.

Celabrating North Minneapolis Youth

Youth Forum

Trent Sowell, freshman from Henry High School and from the summer Youth Engagement Project posed several questions of Mayor Rybak in a mock version of a game show at the 2nd Annual Youth Forum hosted at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation headquarters.


It was a fun way to bring out things that were learned from the over 600 youth surveys collected this summer by several Youth Crews including the Camden Youth Krew. A youth panel of experts reminded attendees and guest panelists of a lack of programming in general across the city but espe­cially for the 13-18 year old age group and asked not only for promises for improvements in the com­munity but action from adults in the room.

The Youth Engagement Project is a youth lead initiative and is another exciting collaborative partnership between the Cleveland, Lind-Bohanon, Shingle Creek, and McKinley neighborhood organizations, the Jenny Lind and Lucy Craft Laney Community Education de­partments, Hennepin County School Success Initiative, and the Youth Coordinating Board, NorthWay Commu­nity Trust, Wells Fargo.
